And despite having torn three ligaments in my ankle on the FIRST day in Wales, I've still managed to do lots of stuff. (For those of you that don't know this, a torn ligament is an EXTREMELY painful thing.)
Also Welsh language is a weird thing. I men, w is a vowel! And yeah. But I can now read in Welsh, so there.
Also i don't think Welsh sheep are very educated. I mean, you don't just stand in the middle of a road when there are cars coming! Imagine driving down a 45% hill around some sherp bends and seeing a sheep in the middle of the road about 10 metres in front of you! And these sheep are only afraid of pedestrians, not cars!
But still, I've got plenty of pics, so beware...
So... First of all, here are The Mumbles: the two rock things (one of them with a lighthouse). The name comes from the french word "mammelles", meaning "breasts".
Then we went to St David's. St David is a patron saint of Wales, so here is his cathedral:
The next day I've managed to convince everybody to go to Brecon Beacons National Park to observe wildlife. I suspect that my brother has scared away all the wildlife, but here are the waterfalls:
This one is called Sgwd Gwladus:
I think this one is Scwd Ddwli:
So anyway. After that we went to Hay-on-Wye, which contains about 45 second-hand bookshops, including the world's largest one. So here goes:

This is just a tiny portion of all the books:

It's part of a large Honesty Bookshop:

And this one was taken inside a Crime Fiction Bookshop:

I want these books:

This is the basement of the World's Largest Second-Hand Bookshop:

Next we went to this random place called Worm's Head (from the Old English wurm = dragon).

That sea was rather cold, by the way. Doesn't mean I can't build a sandcastle!

Oh yeah, this was a rather cute cork tree:

And a cute birdhouse:

And here goes my collection of random signs:

And this last one, enough to make anyone paranoid (no offence guys):

Anyway, that's enough for now.

You must have had a busy week to fit that all in. Ouch, poor you and your leg.
How d'you mean, you can read in Welsh? Did you like get a phrasebook or summat? I love the letter they have that looks like ll...gorgeous. Bit like how i like j in spanish/x in russian.
Yeah well, sheep are stupid. Wow, what a quote! Do yuo realise what you said?! "i don't think Welsh sheep are very educated". Well, last time i checked there weren't any eweniversities...sorry, couldn't resist. (Would that be sharp bends?)
Anyway...yeah, great pics.
Great waterfalls etc. Wales is really pretty. I'd love to have been to Brecon with you. That book place looks interesting. As does all that stuff about languages, be it old english (never knew that...darn you, stop knowing more than me!), french (Mumbles is cool) or welsh (i wanna learn that some day!).
Why did you take a picture of some random old german book?
I spose I can see how the last one sounds sinister...but it's just a reminder of what we easily forget (or want to forget cos it's more comfortable).

My ankle is a bit better, but climbing all these waterfalls was EXTREMELY painful. And since I've torn a ligamen on the other ankle a while ago, I now have two dodgy ankles. Dammit.
Well, my brother downloaded a Welsh pronunciation guide off the internet so that we could read all the place names. (How does "Lord Hereford's Knob" sound?)
Well, all I know is that these wooly animals have never read the Highway Code! Or anything else, for that matter! Like road signs!
We didn't actually go to Brecon itself, just the National Park. But yeah.
I thought the German pre-1920 fonts are pretty! And my brother was going to buy one of the old German books, bu he couldn't read them...
Meh.
August 17 2005, 22:25:11 UTC 6 years ago
Owww...well, one thing we don't have here in Oxfordshire is waterfalls, lol. Well, not that I know of. Certainly no mountains. Grr. Poor you.
Ok. Sounds sensible *restrains urge to ask for link and read in a language-fanatic way*. I beg your pudding?!
Lol. *sigh* *rolls eyes* No...such irresponsible sheep. ;-)
yeah, s'what i meant but didn't say, stupidly. Me love National parks. Must visit all of Britain's sometime. *adds to list of ambitions*
Hmm, fair enough, you have a point there. Yeah, slight drawback. Does none of your family read German?
Um...yeah.
August 18 2005, 07:40:08 UTC 6 years ago
Don't beg, it's not nice to beg. And that was a real name for a mountain!
Sheep are indeed irresponsible. So are their owners...
Well, my brother can supposedly read German, but the fonts look all weird.
August 18 2005, 09:45:04 UTC 6 years ago
I'm not begging. Oh right...hmm...original.
That's more like it...
Yeah, I suppose. Gothic, i think it's called.

That's what I thought. Although I couldn't decide whether that's better than "Three Cocks" for a village...
August 18 2005, 20:46:43 UTC 6 years ago
Lol. Honestly...your humour.
August 18 2005, 21:16:33 UTC 6 years ago
It's all Duka's fault!
August 18 2005, 21:42:46 UTC 6 years ago
Yes of course it is...
August 19 2005, 10:36:31 UTC 6 years ago
Yes it is! She's been corrupting me for educational purposes!
August 19 2005, 11:19:07 UTC 6 years ago
Yes dear...educational purposes?! What, she's studying you in psychology or summat?
August 19 2005, 16:41:13 UTC 6 years ago
And yeah, Penguin got into Winchester, so well done him!
No, it's a convo we've had. She asked me what bondage and dominatrix are, so I explained them to her. She then complained about me corrupting her! So I said I was doing it for educational purposes. And she was corrupting me first anyway!
August 20 2005, 18:53:25 UTC 6 years ago
Yes, maybe they did (k, they will have done), but that's not relevant because you did 5 ASs and will do another, so you beat them anyway. Thereupon is my point.
Yay! Go penguin...no, please don't dance like that! *bad images*
oooo....kkkk. Does she often ask you such things? "Maria, what's sadomasochism?" Eeek...
Well, that is a little unfair I agree. Lol. Is that like Mr. Black? And Mr. Smart swearing for educational purposes? Yes, i'm sure she was. Tho i'd blame your corruption on Penguin and hannah etc. mroe than anything. The youth of today, what do they get up to! (DON'T answer...I'd rather not know)

August 20 2005, 19:08:57 UTC 6 years ago
Lol.
Well no, she already knew what sadomasochism is. Although I remember explaining to her the principles of masturbation at some point.
But she knows more about sex than i do. AND she discusses things like "position 69" with her friends at school. The youth of today indeed...
August 21 2005, 11:18:13 UTC 6 years ago
Oh God...it was only a joke. Err...must you? Ok, I don't know what position 69 is actually (that's NOT a request for explanation!!!!). Definitely...don't know how lucky they are...going round being promiscuous (i just wanted to use that word - it's so big and clever!)

August 21 2005, 15:42:09 UTC 6 years ago
Are you SURE you don't want to know what it is? Actually true, you probably don't. And people talk about it much more than they actually DO it, anyway. So...
August 21 2005, 17:03:53 UTC 6 years ago
Yes, I am sure. Of course they do. Not that there's necessarily a reliable way of knowing that...

August 21 2005, 20:29:16 UTC 6 years ago
I just can't imagine the position to be too comfortable, and anyway, it sort of messes up the roles slightly. I just think it's better one at a time, tbh. (Just ignore what I've just said, since you probably don't want to know what I'm on about).
August 21 2005, 22:09:33 UTC 6 years ago
Yeah ok, too much information there, even though you've told me nothing.
